Primate Observations

While at the San Diego Zoo, I observed the gorilla habitat. Gorillas, scientfically known as gorillas as well,  are most commonly found in Africa along the equator. Gorillas are currently on the IUCN Red List. Their habitat ranges from lowland tropical rain forests to mountain slopes and bamboo forests. Gorillas are very peaceful as well as family oriented. Gorillas are known for their similarities with humans, although the two are also very different as well. The gorillas spent the most of their time relaxing and snacking on plants. In the exhibit, one gorilla looked after her young in a very nurturing way. She held the child in her arms the majority of the time, looking after it. A young gorilla stays close to their mom, sharing a nest, for four to six years, at times nursing up to three years old as well.
